Here's what's going on this week

From the contractor: Main Street will be closed to vehicle traffic from Ceape to Irving with cross traffic (east/west movement) at Washington/Algoma, Merritt/Church, and Irving. Pearl/Otter will be closed for the duration of the project. Ceape cross traffic will be open. Main Street from the bridge to Ceape will be open, however lane closures will be in effect.

High/Waugoo, Parkway, and Pearl/Otter Intersections will be closed to vehicle traffic.

From the 2010 programs committee: April starts the first promotion for Downtown shoppers. April 1st the Downtown Businesses are starting a monthly Road Construction Promotion! The Future of Downtown Oshkosh!

2010 Road Construction Downtown Oshkosh

  • Project limits are from the Fox River Bridge to Irving Avenue

  • The road construction is expected to begin in Spring 2010 and finish in the Fall of 2010

  • (Not just a facelift structural changes such as:)  pavement structure, curb and gutter, sidewalk, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, water main, street lighting, and traffic signals

  • Goal of the project is to provide a safe and practical street for the next 40-50 years

  • This will give Downtown Oshkosh the opportunity to update the streetscape and add safety enhancements for both vehicles and pedestrians

  • Some cross streets will remain open for the duration of the construction period
  • Block captains have been assigned to distribute information on a weekly basis during the construction

  • Back door entrances will be the main entrance for the businesses located on Main St.
     
  • Maps and signs will be used during the road construction to help people get downtown

  • The Downtown Businesses are extremely excited about this project because with the combination of the Façade program and the street reconstruction Downtown Oshkosh will achieve an esthetically pleasing environment!
