Waterfest

August 23, 2018

Description
Waterfest is a Celebration of The Quality of Life we enjoy here in the Fox Valley Area. The name was chosen to draw attention to our most valuable, unique and recognizable resource, our waterways. The event takes place on the shores of the historic Fox River in Downtown Oshkosh. Some of the greatest musicians of our time perform in an intimate and accessible venue. The food generally consists of Wisconsin's best brats and burgers served by anyone of a dozen or so community volunteer organizations.

Depending on the weather and the artists strength of appeal anywhere from 2,500 to 7,500 visitors may be in attendance for any given evening. We generally enjoy about 60 to 70,000 guests during the entire 9 evenings of entertainment. Becoming Kareem: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with Roy Firestone

September 08, 2018

Description
One of the most recognizable sports personalities in the world takes center stage in Oshkosh, when Kareem Abdul-Jabbar appears live at the Menominee Nation Arena in Downtown Oshkosh. BECOMING KAREEM will be presented by the Menominee Nation Arena and The Grand Oshkosh for one performance only, as part of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s nationwide tour. In BECOMING KAREEM, Kareem showcases the top 7 mentors and the most important lessons he learned from each. In some cases, the lessons learned were not the ones intended by the mentor, but were a reaction to what Kareem saw as a flaw in their teaching. The multi-media presentation will feature photographs, film clips, and music that both set up the time period and, in an entertaining way, demonstrate the lessons involved. This event will be hosted by Roy Firestone, seven-time Emmy Award-winning and seven-time cable ACE Award-winning host, interviewer, narrator, writer, and producer.

The Endurance

September 11, 2018

Description
Rochelle Pennington tells the story of the epic adventure of Sir Ernest Shackleton's "Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition," a true account of human strife and triumph. The crew of twenty-eight sailors and scientists on board the ship set sail in 1914, southward bound, to conquer one of the few remaining explorative feats which had not yet been accomplished by others before them: a complete on-foot crossing of the Antarctic continent. But before reaching land, their ship became trapped in the rapidly forming ice 100 miles off the coast. The crew, stranded 11,000 miles from home, waited for the spring thaw through nine long months of blizzards, gales, and temperatures nearing 100 degrees below zero. The men then watched in horror as their ship succumbed to the pressure of the frozen ocean, breaking to rubble and sinking before the waters around it had a chance to melt. The crew's only hope for survival was to attempt an escape across the most treacherous waters on the face of the globe in three salvaged lifeboats. This event is sponsored by the Winnebago County Historical and Archaeological Society.

Dirty Revival

September 21, 2018

Description
Fronted by Portland native, Sarah Clarke, who’s powerful vocals and engaging stage presence immediately command attention, the rest of the band is comprised of six exceptional musicians, Evan “Evvnflo” Simko (Guitar + MC), Terry Drysdale (Drums), Jon Shaw (Bass), Ben Turner (Keys), Chris Hardin (Tenor Sax), Thomas Barber (Trumpet). Many of them friends since high school, each player is as good as the next and all of them exceptional in their own way, Dirty Revival functions like a well oiled machine with every part doing exactly what it’s supposed to. Dirty Revival’s democratic approach to music shows in their songwriting, their original music effortlessly incorporating several different genres of music. At times showcasing their unique take on the soul and funk sounds of the 60’s and 70’s, then, straddling the line between rock band and pop band. The care the group takes in the arrangement of their original music is reflected in their cover choices, known for their dynamic recreations of classic songs by artists ranging from NIN to Black Sabbath and Rage Against the machine, illustrates why it is difficult to put the Dirty Revival in any one genre of music. Dirty Revival has shared the stage with many legendary acts including George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Michael Franti, The Motet, Gift Of Gab, Lyrics Born, and members of The Meters, George Porter Jr. and Zigaboo Modeliste. Participating in several notable events and venues, including Waterfront Blues Festival (OR), World Music Festival (CA), Arise Music Festival (CO), Upstream 2018 (WA), The Filmore (SF) and many more wrapped into the the several years of multi regional touring they have under their belt. Dirty Revival has also spent time in studio releasing a full length album (self-titled, Dirty Revival) and a 7” record (So Cold). On stage or in your record player, Dirty Revival will captivate you from the very first note and give you a musical experience you will never forget.

Steve Earle & The Dukes

December 11, 2018

Description
Presented by ACG If you ever had any doubt about where Steve Earle’s musical roots are planted, his new collection, So You Wannabe an Outlaw, makes it perfectly plain. “There’s nothing ‘retro’ about this record,” he states, “I’m just acknowledging where I’m coming from.” So You Wannabe an Outlaw is the first recording he has made in Austin, Texas. Earle has lived in New York City for the past decade but he acknowledges, “Look, I’m always gonna be a Texan, no matter what I do. And I’m always going to be somebody who learned their craft in Nashville. It’s who I am.” In the 1970s, artists such as Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Paycheck, Billy Joe Shaver and Tompall Glaser gave country music a rock edge, some raw grit and a rebel attitude. People called what these artists created “outlaw music.” Steve Earle’s 2017 collection, So You Wannabe an Outlaw, is an homage to outlaw music. “I was out to unapologetically ‘channel’ Waylon as best as I could.” says Earle. “This record was all about me on the back pick-up of a Fender Telecaster on an entire record for the first time in my life. The singing part of it is a little different. I certainly don’t sound like Waylon Jennings.”

Oshkosh Community Players presents The Producers

June 07, 2019

Description
June 7-8 and 13-15, 2019 | 7:30 p.m. June 9, 2019 | 2:00 p.m. THE PRODUCERS is an uproariously funny, irreverent look at the world of Broadway Musical Theatre. From the mind of the incomparable Mel Brooks comes a satiric masterpiece, where nothing is sacred. Max Bialystock is a failing Broadway producer who hasn’t had a hit show in what seems like forever. In walks Leo Bloom to review his books. Leo notices that Max could conceivably make more money from a flop than from a hit. Together they seek out the worst play ever written, hire the worst director and possibly the worst cast ever to perform “Springtime for Hitler.” Join Oshkosh Community Players as we bring this laugh a minute season finale to The Grand Oshkosh and see where they went right.
